Your elected Hoover City Council will meet tonight (Monday, November 4) at 6:00 p.m. First up on their agenda is the approval of the FY14 budget.
The Council has once again allotted $2 million of the taxes we pay for our city’s 14,000 school children. Funding cuts implemented by the members of this City Council have resulted in our schools receiving $51.6 million fewer dollars since 2002.
When they move to pass the budget, they will ask if anyone in the public has any comments. This is our chance to ask our elected officials why they have chosen to allot only $2 million knowing that 6,925 of Hoover’s children will lose their ride to school next year.
Additionally, before the meetings ends, anyone is allowed to step to the podium and speak directly to the members of the Council and the Mayor. This is an excellent time to update Council members on how your family plans to deal with the upcoming bus elimination.
Please attend even if you choose not to speak. The elected members of the Hoover City Council are the only officials elected by the people of Hoover that can be held accountable for the decisions the Board of Education makes, as the Hoover City Council is responsible for appointing each of the Hoover Board of Education members.
